Mahlon 'Doc' Bennett (Class of 1940)
Pontotoc, OK Age 91 March 30, 2012 Funeral Services for Mr."Doc" Bennett, 91, of Pontotoc, Oklahoma will be held on Thursday, April 5th, 2012 at 2:00 p. m. in the Clark Funeral Chapel in Tishomingo, Oklahoma with Rev. Don Delaplain officiating, assisted by Rev. Roberto Escamilla. Interment will follow in the Colley Cemetery on Hwy 99/377, one mile north of Pontotoc, Oklahoma. Mr. Bennett passed away on March 30th, at his home. "Doc" was born on December 12th, 1920 in Hampshire,Tennessee to Horace Claybourn Bennett and Claudia Olive (Hudson) Bennett. After high school graduation, he attended and graduated from Murray State College in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. He then served in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1945 receiving his Honorable Discharge. After his military service, "Doc" attended and graduated from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He married Carol Delaplain on May 26th, 1946 in Ada. Years later, he received completed his Master's Degree at East Central. He was a Golden Gloves boxing champion in his younger days and into his senior years competed in the Senior Olympics from age 60-85, receiving many award from both activities. He was also an avid runner. "Doc" was a teacher, coach and rancher for many years. He lived in Pontotoc County from 1969 until the present. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill Bennett and Frank Bennett and three sisters, Cleo Huff, Hazel Williams and Vera Niemiec. "Doc" is survived by his wife Carol, of the home; his daughter, Cindy Stinchcomb and husband Roger of Fittstown, Oklahoma; two sons, Dan Bennett and wife Donneva and Larry Bennett and wife Zanda, all of Oolagah, Oklahoma; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; his sister, Wynona Marie Phillips of Pasadena, Texas; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers for the service will be: Lance Bennett, Luke Bennett, Zachary Bennett, Josh Bennett, Roger Stinchcomb and Andreasen Matson. Honorary Bearers will be: Albert Snow, Joe Woodard, Charles Wyatt, Turk Barrett and Benny Bennett.
