Marvin Ray Hamilton, 80, devoted son of William Lee Hamilton and Jessie (Davis) Hamilton, passed from life peacefully Saturday, July 13, 2013, in Tulsa. Born July 29, 1932, in Tishomingo, Marvin grew up on Pennington Creek in Tishomingo with his 10 brothers and sisters and a cousin, Gordon Hamilton. He graduated from Tishomingo High School. After serving as a U.S. Navy radioman in Hawaii, he completed a bachelor's degree at Southeastern State College in Durant.

After graduation, he began his long, passionate career as a coach of basketball, track and football, both women's and men's teams, in Oakland; Terrell; Pierce, Idaho; Gate; Davenport; Randlett; Healdton; Cache; Tishomingo; and Lone Grove. His first teaching position was in Baker, Mont., in a one-room schoolhouse. He was an award-winning teacher of history and civics. Marvin loved and was very proud of his athletes, students and colleagues, keeping in contact with many throughout his life.

A keen follower of sports, politics and horse-racing, Marvin was also dedicated to his lifelong and recent friends, and to the daughters he loved so well. Besides Tishomingo, his favorite places to be were Las Vegas and Hawaii, to which he traveled whenever possible.

Marvin is preceded in death by his father, William Hamilton; his mother, Jessie; his brothers, Claude, Jess, Dub and Fredo Hamilton; his sisters, Thelma Pool Baugh, Bernice Gay and Billie Hamilton; and his wife, Patsy Welch Hamilton.

He is survived by his two daughters, Kristie Hamilton, of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Melani Hamilton of Tulsa, her husband Keith McArtor, and their children, Victoria, Jonathan, and Abbey; his sister, Betty Grow and husband Jimmy of Ardmore; his brother, Rober Buford Hamilton of Moore; and his cousin, Gordon Hamilton of San Diego, CA.; along with many other beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
