Donald James Martin (Faculty)
Ada, OK Age 89 January 10, 2014 Services for Donald James Martin, 89, of Ada, were 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. John Haynes officiated. Burial followed at Pontotoc Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard conducted military honors at the cemetery. Mr. Martin died Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home. He was born March 12, 1924 at Russett, Oklahoma to Wyatt Lee and Minnie Leatta Potts Martin. He attended grade school at Russett and graduated from Russett High School. He moved to Ada to attend East Central University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended the University of Oklahoma and received a Master’s of Education. He married Martha Lee Poindexter on July 1, 1945 in Winfield, Kansas. Mr. Martin was an Educator, Elementary Principal, County Superintendent of Schools in Johnston County, and Dean of Students at Murray State College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tishomingo and Ada where he served as a Deacon. He was a charter member of the Lion’s Club of Tishomingo and District Governor of Lion’s District 3K from 1966-1967. Mr. Martin served with the U. S. Army Air Corps Gliders during World War II from 1942-1945. He served in New Guinea, Luzon and the Philippines. Survivors include his wife, Martha Martin, of the home; three daughters, Donna Hudson and husband Lannie of Murfreesboro, TN, Sue Young of Aledo, TX, and Patti Bonar and husband Bruce of Ada; and a son, Randy Martin and wife Lisa of Norman; 12 grandchildren; and 29 great grandchildren. Bearers were his grandsons. |
