Jack Harold "Grumpy" Maxwell (Class of 1976)

Jack Harold Maxwell, AKA "Grumpy" stepped into Heaven on Tuesday night March 21, 2017 at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur at the age of 59 years, 1 month & 27 days. Jack was born on January 22, 1958 in Duncan, OK to the late Bobby Jack Maxwell & Carol Ann Maxwell. Jack was raised in Ravia and attended Ravia Public Schools before going on to Tishomiongo High School where he later graduated with the class of 1976. He attended Vo-Tech to learn carpentry. After graduation he went to work for Johnston County District 3 where he learned to use heavy equipment, a trade he used throughout his working years.

On September 27, 1980 Jack & Edwina Webb were married at the Ravia Baptist Church under a leaky roof. In August 1981 "Daddy's Girl" Ashley was born & in September of 1992 Jack & Edwina welcomed a son Jackson.

Jack join the Ravia Fire Department in April of 1980 where he served until moving to Mill Creek where he served until his retirement with 30 years of volunteer service. In September of 2005 Jack received The Medal of Valor for an extraordinary act of bravery in the line of duty. Jack had a love for fire fighting, woodworking, and believed in helping others. When his granddaughters Brighton & Brooklyn were born he became "Grumpy" a name he carried proudly.

Jack is survived by:

Wife: Edwina (Webb) Maxwell of the home

Son: Jackson "Bud" Maxwell of Mill Creek

Daughter: Ashley "Sassy" Lanier" & husband Devin of Mill Creek

Sister: Cindy Miller & husband Toby of Ravia

Granddaughters: Brighton & Brooklyn Lanier of Mill Creek

Little Devil Dog: Mater of the home

Nephew: Jacob Miller of Ravia

Niece: Emily Miller of Ravia

Jack was preceded in death by:

Parents: Bobby Jack Maxwell & Carol Ann Maxwell

Grandparents: Homer & Ruth Moore

Jack had requested that his body be donated to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation to try & further the cure for diabetes.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday at 2 pm at the Ravia Baptist Church with Reverend Claude Williams officiating.
